KID ROBOT AUCTION!
Hey kids! It's time for more hurricane relief. KID ROBOT is throwing three simultaneous parties on November 3rd, one in SAN FRANCISCO, one in LOS ANGELES, and one in NEW YORK. If you're around any of those areas, hit the shop and bid on ORIGINAL HAND-PAINTED MUNNY TOYS. Yes, you can own an original design of the new vinyl Munny toy, painted by such luminaries as GWEN STEFANI, DIDDY, ROBIN WILLIAMS, TIM BISKUP, and many, many others. I've contributed a painted toy to the auction, so keep your eyes peeled for more info on what venue it will be auctioned off at!
Blank Munny toys will go on sale at the event, as well, so buy 'em up and paint 'em up.

NOBLE BOY
So, I've got quotes from a great printer, and we're a go, my friends. NOBLE BOY will be the debut RED WINDOW release, distributed through Diamond by a third party to be announced soon. Make no mistake, this is a slef-publishing venture, and there's a whole slate of books scheduled to come out over the next couple of years. I'm in this for the long haul, making books the way I've always wanted to: high quality, often times full color, and featuring stories important to me. My family, my day job, and especially my peers and colleagues are really the ones enabling me to do all this, and I'm incredibly happy. I think you'll all see what I mean when NOBLE BOY hits.
NOBLE BOY will be a 32-page "board book", meaning every page is of equal thickness. It's a sort of "children's book" that's not for children, a biography of my mentor, animation legend Maurice Noble. It'll retail affordably at $9.95, I'm fairly certain, and will hit shelves in the first quarter of next year.

RED WINDOW, 2006!
We're intricately and delicately planning the 2006 launch of RED WINDOW, my self-publishing venture. The plan, dear people, is to launch a new book close to the major cons I'll be attending. Some will be available through Diamond, but some, I warn you, may be smaller print runs of high quality limited editions available only online and at conventions, so I can meet as many of the potential readers face-to-face and offer some unique treats.
As it stands now, I've got NOBLE BOY in the can and planned as the debut book for Feb. or March. Following in April will be another book for APE, and in June a book for MoCCA, and in July, San Diego. I'm actively working on ALL of these books, and some are near completion, so as a book is announced, rest assured, it's done and either at the printers or close to it!
So keep your eyes peeled...more soon!

Jazz for Charity!
http://www.newcomicreviews.com/auction/
That's where you can currently bid on 12 individual drawings I did for Katrina relief. They're all jazz-based, very loose and graphic, and the bidding is still fairly low as I write this. Now's your chance to grab some originals at a good price...TWELVE originals, all at once! GO BID! Help some folks out.

HURRICANE KATRINA BENEFIT BOOK
So, SPX will also see the release of a special benefit book being offered by Robert Bienvenu and the Baton Rouge Cartoonist Society. I've produced 12 jazz-inspired images for inclusion in the book, and the originals will be available shortly on the Bendis Board Charity Auction.
One cool note about the benefit book is that it's an OPEN SUBMISSION, so if you're an artist looking for a way to help out, drop them a line. Here's the details:
The Baton Rouge Cartoonist Society is taking submissions for an anthology to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
While our families and friends in the New Orleans and Mississippi areas are safe with family, there are thousands that are in desperate need and that will require extended help throughout the coming months. Every penny from sales will go to the Red Cross hurricane relief efforts.
This is extremely late notice, but our plan is to have the anthology available for sale at this month’s Small Press Expo. Due to the short turn-around time, we will need any submissions by Friday, September 16th.
We’re not asking for lengthy stories, but if any creators can contribute a short story, a page, a strip, a panel, or pin-up, we would be extremely grateful.
While we are all frustrated and angered by the initial ineffectiveness of our state and federal government’s response to this tragedy, we are not looking for political statements. Art and story celebrating the New Orleans and gulf coast region, or that touches on the tragedy, or expresses your feelings would certainly be welcome. If you already have completed art that you think would be appropriate, we would welcome that as well.
Format:
Our plans are to stick to a 4.25 x 5.5 page size.
If e-mailing, please keep file size within reason.
Please send art to:
hurricane@redcitycomics.com
or:
Robert Bienvenu
9364 N. Parkview Dr.
Baton Rouge, LA.

JOE RANFT, 1960-2005
It's with a heavy heart that I'm reporting the death of legendary writer/actor/Head of Story Joe Ranft. I've been a recent colleague of Joe's at Pixar, where Joe was Story Head on TOY STORY 1 and 2, A BUG'S LIFE, and CARS, as well as Head of Story for the company as a whole. He voiced the caterpillar Heimlich in A BUG'S LIFE and Wheezey the squeak toy in TOY STORY 2, among others. At Disney, he played an integral part in shaping BEAUTY AND THE BEST and THE LION KING, among other films.
Joe was an incredible person, a big teddy bear of a guy who always did his best to make you feel welcome and important to the company. I was looking forward to working more closely with him. His inspiration as a storyteller, and more importantly as a good person, will resonate with me always.
You can read more about Joe at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0710020/ , and more personal notes at http://www.ronniedelcarmen.com/blog1/blog.html .

SAN DIEGO wares
CRAZYFISHBOWL
Hey all-
As of now, I'll have these new thangs fer sale at SD:
*Two new t-shirts, available in men's and baby dolls...two-color designs, tigers are involved. Probably $15 a pop.
*A limited edition version of FRANKENSTEIN, signed with a fully painted image inside. Real paint, inside. Limited to 25, so come quick. Probably $40-50 bucks a pop.
*There might be a limited mini comic version of a new short story I'm doing for the SPX antho, too. Milliken Darby's involved. Price TBA if I get 'em done.
*I'll have a preview of my new fully painted, full-color tribute to Maurice Noble, NOBLE BOY, due out later this year or early next. This is done like a children's book, and will be bound like a board book. And it all rhymes. It's not really for kids, though. I couldn't get 'em bound in time for SD, so they'll hit later.
* And I'll of course have lots of original art, including pages from the Eisner Award nominated PLASTIC MAN, FRANKENSTEIN, SPAGHETTI WESTERN, ROOM FULL OF STRANGERS, and lots more...
SO there you go! Come see us at SD!
ON THE DRAWING BOARD: I'm currently almost done with pencils for the SPX MILLIKEN DARBY short, so inks begin soon. Also working on an expanded version of one of my other books, giving a whole new slant to it. Might even have some pages at SD to show the lucky loos. I'm happy with how it's turning out...it'll be close to 300 pages when it's all done. That'll hit right after NOBLE BOY. And I'm writing AS BIG AS EARTH stories, too...
More soon!
