I'll be there, and I'm trying to figure out how to bring paint to do paintings, San Diego style, $100 a pop, anything you want. If I can't figure a way to get my paint on the plane, It'll be drawings, fully inked, for $40 a pop, I think.

NEW STORY/BOOK/GALLERY SHOW?

I'm in the middle of laying out a new story tentatively called NOTES OVER YONDER. You'll all be able to read it in two parts, half of it in AdHouse's upcoming PROJECT: ROMANTIC, and half in the upcoming AFTERWORKS II. Each section is stand-alone, not relying on the other for communication, but together, they make for a different, more unique story. It's fully painted and almost entirely silent, but I'm working in a lot of mood, my love of jazz, a ukulele, and a cat. You'll see...it'll all play together. Anyhow, once completed, the paintings may be framed and shown as part of a three-man show in Los Angeles later this year at Gallery 1988, with Bwana Spoons and Thomas Han. And the whole story will be collected into a hardcover around the same time, so you can read it in one fell swoop and possibly draw new meaning from it. I'm excited about how this one is coming out, and can't wait to see it completed.

Kerouac!

So this weekend, we hit San Francisco and saw the original ON THE ORAD manuscript on display at the SF Library. It's huge, all on one continuous piece of paper (the kind of paper is up for dispute...possibly butcher paper or something). It was typed over a manic 21 day period, I believe, on these 12-foot long sheets of paper and taped together. You can even see where he typed right over the tape. It's pretty amazing. There are other interesting things on display, as well, including a visual map of the route taken in ON THE ROAD, and a guide and pictures of the fictional characters vs. their real-life counterparts. This is a must-see if you're in the Bay Area, people!

DECEMBER, and beyond!

Hey boys and girls-- it's been a few weeks since I've popped my head up, but there's good reason! I've been busting my butt getting NOBLE BOY ready to ship, and just got back from a much-needed break on Maui. I scored an amazing new Ukelele from Mele Ukelele (www.meleukelele.com) and found a buried treasure left by my good pal Ricky Nierva at the base of Black Rock in Kaanapali. And yes, I had to jump off of said Black Rock, an infamous rock diving spot. My little sister-in-law showed me up, though, I'm afraid, with two jumps. At any rate, we all had a blast, and it was amazing watching my little boy of 8 months kick his toes in the surf and giggle into the trade winds.

Now, heads-up, and tell a friend: NOBLE BOY will be in the next issue of PREVIEWS, offered through AdHouse Books. Go preorder it, preorder one for a friend, and tell your local retailer to preorder at least ten for their shop. Next up is TIGER!TIGER!TIGER!, the long-awaited return of Southpaw!

Also, I'll be contributing new short stories, fully painted, to two 2006 anthologies: PROJECT: ROMANTIC and AFTERWORKS II. These shorts will be stand-alone, but also link up into a longer work. More on the stories soon! PROJECT: ROMANTIC is, of course, the third entry into the AdHouse Books line of award-winning PROJECT:anthologies. AFTERWORKS II is a compilation of animation artists out of Emeryville, called E-VILLE PRESS. These guys are GOOD.

Hang tight, and have great holidays, everyone.

THE FIRST RED WINDOW PRESS RELEASE!

On behalf of Red Window, AdHouse Books distributes the following press release:

NOVEMBER, 2005. Scott Morse is pleased to announce the birth of RED WINDOW, a new self-publishing venture. Through new projects including original graphic novels, art books, clothing, and films, RED WINDOW is the venue through which Morse will continue to grow as a storyteller and artist, utilizing the finest production values available.

"I've been publishing my work through a myriad of incredible publishing houses over the past few years, but certain projects that I'm in the process of creating have become incredibly personal endeavors, and have grown to need extra attention," states Morse. "These projects, including autobiographical stories, art books, and film projects, are things that I want presented through very specific means. I'm letting each one dictate production values, putting in the extra effort and care to ensure that they're offered to audiences as something unique."

Helping Morse realize these projects to their full potential is award-winning designer and publisher Chris Pitzer, of AdHOUSE BOOKS, who will not only serve as designer and consultant, but as distributor of RED WINDOW's catalogue of products. "Chris Pitzer is more passionate about design and storytelling than
most anyone I've ever had the pleasure of working with, " states Morse. "His talents are a boon to my work through RED WINDOW, and I couldn't be happier with the work we're producing."

“It’s been a great pleasure to work with Scott Morse over the years... From his sell-out hit SOUTHPAW, to his thoughts on heroes with SUPERIOR,” said Pitzer “I think self-publishing is the next logical step for him to take, and I’m more than happy to make suggestions along the way.”

The pipeline of products for 2006 includes the Red Window debut graphic novel NOBLE BOY, a biographical "board book" about animation design pioneer and legend
Maurice Noble, who trained Morse with a small group of hand-picked artists at Chuck Jones Film Productions, Turner, Warner Bros., and other studios. Morse says,
"Maurice was a playful, energetic character, a huge influence on not only my work, but who I am as a person. NOBLE BOY is the long-overdue first step in introducing Maurice to the masses as a person. You've all seen his work, from SNOW WHITE to DUCK DOGERS to HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS...now, it's time you learn about this orchestrator of the films you grew up loving." NOBLE BOY will be offered as a 32-page, full color board book, each page thick and meaty with rhyming text and art, and will retail for $12.95.

Future RED WINDOW projects include:

*TIGER!TIGER!TIGER!, the massive expansion of the sell-out AdHouse offering SOUTHPAW.
*ALONG THESE FIERY PATHS, a hardcover, fully painted autobiography.
*BANJOJOE, a live-action short film project
*CHARACTER STUDY, a collection of sketchbook ink drawings mixed with prose text.
*and more to be announced soon.

While RED WINDOW will solely produce the work of Morse, he'll also continue to produce work with outside publishers on a project-to-project basis. "RED WINDOW is for my personal work, for stories and art that I need to oversee on all levels," assures Morse. "You'll see my name pop up at other publishers and on other films, as well, I guarantee."

NOBLE BOY

So, I've got quotes from a great printer, and we're a go, my friends. NOBLE BOY will be the debut RED WINDOW release, distributed through Diamond by a third party to be announced soon. Make no mistake, this is a slef-publishing venture, and there's a whole slate of books scheduled to come out over the next couple of years. I'm in this for the long haul, making books the way I've always wanted to: high quality, often times full color, and featuring stories important to me. My family, my day job, and especially my peers and colleagues are really the ones enabling me to do all this, and I'm incredibly happy. I think you'll all see what I mean when NOBLE BOY hits.

NOBLE BOY will be a 32-page "board book", meaning every page is of equal thickness. It's a sort of "children's book" that's not for children, a biography of my mentor, animation legend Maurice Noble. It'll retail affordably at $9.95, I'm fairly certain, and will hit shelves in the first quarter of next year.

MORE SOON!

RED WINDOW, 2006!

We're intricately and delicately planning the 2006 launch of RED WINDOW, my self-publishing venture. The plan, dear people, is to launch a new book close to the major cons I'll be attending. Some will be available through Diamond, but some, I warn you, may be smaller print runs of high quality limited editions available only online and at conventions, so I can meet as many of the potential readers face-to-face and offer some unique treats.

As it stands now, I've got NOBLE BOY in the can and planned as the debut book for Feb. or March. Following in April will be another book for APE, and in June a book for MoCCA, and in July, San Diego. I'm actively working on ALL of these books, and some are near completion, so as a book is announced, rest assured, it's done and either at the printers or close to it!

So keep your eyes peeled...more soon!
