Tigers!

These three tigers were done for an upcoming art auction at Cartoon Network to benefit Fyn Stec, the son of animation designer Paul Stec. Fyn was recently diagnosed with liver cancer, so please send the Stec's some good vibes and donate to help Fyn, if you're so inclined. I'll post an update on whether or not you can bid for these online, but I think it might be a situation where you have to be there to bid. In the meantime, enjoy the jpegs!

AFTERWORKS 2

AFTERWORKS 2 is nearing completion! This thing is going to be stellar. The line-up is amazing...plus they let me in to play. Image is publishing for a July release, just in time for San Diego! When you see it in PREVIEWS, order!

E-VILLE PRESS

EMERALD CITY and CONVERSE

Two quick things: I'll be at EMERALD CITY COMIC CON in Seattle this weekend with pals Jim Mahfood, Mike Huddleston, Dave Crosland, Bob Schreck, Diana Schutz, Matt Wagner, and others! Come say hey. I'll be bringing paint, San Diego-style, and doing paintings, 8"by 10", black and white on color backgrounds, any subject you ask for, as long as you bring reference for the crazy stuff. Probably $100 a pop, as long as my arm holds out. Hope to see some of you there!

Second: The Converse shoes below...I've received reports that they're available in Taiwan and Ireland, but no confirmation of other regions. I'm having a few pairs sent over from Ireland. The agency I worked with on the shoes has been told by Converse that they were never made and don't exist...though, again, people have reported purchasing them. SO...I'll let you all know the deal as it unfolds. We're bugging the hell out of Converse to get the scoop. Thanks to Louise for the news from Ireland!

More soon!

ALONG THESE FIERY PATHS

So here are some test pages for a future book, ALONG THESE FIERY PATHS. The book revolves around my tendancy to become very hot-headed, juxtaposed against a backpacking trip in Yosemite where I found myself cut off by a forest fire. Really happened! Anyhow, these are potentially images from the book, but they're tests, so the book may end up looking totally different. Thought you all might like to see how it's progressing at this stage, though, so here you go!

I AM 8-BIT II

So, next month is the debut of Gallery1988's I AM 8-BIT II, a critically acclaimed group show with an 8-bit video game theme. The last show was a major success, and this year will mark the debut of not only this new show, but a book and some serious press coverage. Here's some pieces I'm contributing to the effort, based on Atari's COMBAT cartridge video game. All are cell vinal and watercolor on heavy watercolor paper, 4"x6". All of these images will be available at the gallery for purchase. RATATAT!

APRIL 1 and 2! Mark yer calendars!

NEW STORY/BOOK/GALLERY SHOW?

I'm in the middle of laying out a new story tentatively called NOTES OVER YONDER. You'll all be able to read it in two parts, half of it in AdHouse's upcoming PROJECT: ROMANTIC, and half in the upcoming AFTERWORKS II. Each section is stand-alone, not relying on the other for communication, but together, they make for a different, more unique story. It's fully painted and almost entirely silent, but I'm working in a lot of mood, my love of jazz, a ukulele, and a cat. You'll see...it'll all play together. Anyhow, once completed, the paintings may be framed and shown as part of a three-man show in Los Angeles later this year at Gallery 1988, with Bwana Spoons and Thomas Han. And the whole story will be collected into a hardcover around the same time, so you can read it in one fell swoop and possibly draw new meaning from it. I'm excited about how this one is coming out, and can't wait to see it completed.

Kerouac!

So this weekend, we hit San Francisco and saw the original ON THE ORAD manuscript on display at the SF Library. It's huge, all on one continuous piece of paper (the kind of paper is up for dispute...possibly butcher paper or something). It was typed over a manic 21 day period, I believe, on these 12-foot long sheets of paper and taped together. You can even see where he typed right over the tape. It's pretty amazing. There are other interesting things on display, as well, including a visual map of the route taken in ON THE ROAD, and a guide and pictures of the fictional characters vs. their real-life counterparts. This is a must-see if you're in the Bay Area, people!

PREVIEWS

Hey people...the new PREVIEWS just hit the shelves, and it's your opportunity to order NOBLE BOY, and to tell your friends and local retailers to do the same! NOBLE BOY is on page 209 and is "Certified Cool", I'll have you know! There's a purty ad designed by Chris Pitzer accompanying the solicitation, under AdHouse Books.

Also, on page 356, the Previews Book Store hypes SPAGHETTI WESTERN. If you haven't picked this up yet, originally released in 2004, now's your chance!

Thanks for the support! More soon!

DECEMBER, and beyond!

Hey boys and girls-- it's been a few weeks since I've popped my head up, but there's good reason! I've been busting my butt getting NOBLE BOY ready to ship, and just got back from a much-needed break on Maui. I scored an amazing new Ukelele from Mele Ukelele (www.meleukelele.com) and found a buried treasure left by my good pal Ricky Nierva at the base of Black Rock in Kaanapali. And yes, I had to jump off of said Black Rock, an infamous rock diving spot. My little sister-in-law showed me up, though, I'm afraid, with two jumps. At any rate, we all had a blast, and it was amazing watching my little boy of 8 months kick his toes in the surf and giggle into the trade winds.

Now, heads-up, and tell a friend: NOBLE BOY will be in the next issue of PREVIEWS, offered through AdHouse Books. Go preorder it, preorder one for a friend, and tell your local retailer to preorder at least ten for their shop. Next up is TIGER!TIGER!TIGER!, the long-awaited return of Southpaw!

Also, I'll be contributing new short stories, fully painted, to two 2006 anthologies: PROJECT: ROMANTIC and AFTERWORKS II. These shorts will be stand-alone, but also link up into a longer work. More on the stories soon! PROJECT: ROMANTIC is, of course, the third entry into the AdHouse Books line of award-winning PROJECT:anthologies. AFTERWORKS II is a compilation of animation artists out of Emeryville, called E-VILLE PRESS. These guys are GOOD.

Hang tight, and have great holidays, everyone.
