YOUR FRIEND THE RAT

So, you may or may not know that I was a part of the short film on the RATATOUILLE dvd, YOUR FRIEND THE RAT. It's Pixar's first real foray into 2-D animation on a short-film scale, with a couple of stop motion shots thrown in for good measure, and of course some good ol' 3-D, too. I did a lot of the backgrounds and color styling for the short, which was designed by Nate Wragg and Teddy Newton, and directed by Jim Capobianco. There's some behind the scenes photos here. There's a LITTLE GOLDEN BOOK you can purchase, as well, with actual art from the flick. It's cheap! Go grab a copy today and start the new year off right.

It was brilliant. It's one of the best things I've seen pixar do in ages. Really beautifully designed and finished.
I wish they'd put this much thought into a 2D feature.

i LOVED this short. All of the different textures and styles really made it feel much more alive than the feature. great job scott and everyone involved.

Hey Scott,

Cool blog!!! You've worked with two heroes of mine Brad Bird and Doug Tennapel, so finding this blog is great for me!

"Your friend the rat" was a great film, the 2D looks amazing, its its own style of 2D way different from anyone else's, it looks like concept art or those abstract animation shortfilms.

The stop motion scenes were a nice addition too!

Anyhoo, I'll keep reading through your blog!
